Palak Idli Recipe

Palak Idli Recipe, Spinach Idli is a great South Indian dish for breakfast. If Idli is made with spinach, then its nutritional value increases significantly. Many people like South Indian Idli for breakfast in the morning.

Ingredients for making Spinach Idli-

  • Semolina (rava) – 1 cup
  • Spinach chopped – 2 cups
  • Chana dal – 1 tbsp
  • Cashew – 1 tbsp
  • Ginger chopped – 1 tsp
  • Green chili – 2
  • Cumin – 1 tsp
  • Baking soda – 1/4 tsp
  • Desi Ghee – 1 tbsp
  • salt to taste
  • Carrot grated – 1/3 cup
  • Curd – 1 cup
  • Rai – 1 tsp
  • Urad Dal – 1 tbsp

How to make Spinach Idli

  • To make Palak Idli, first wash and clean the spinach thoroughly.
  • After this break the stalks of spinach and chop them finely.
  • Now put half a tablespoon of ghee in a pan and heat it on medium heat.
  • When the ghee becomes hot and melts, add mustard seeds to it.
  • When mustard seeds crackle, add urad dal, chana dal and cashews and fry all the three ingredients well.
  • After this, add 1 cup rava to this mixture and after mixing it well with the help of a ladle, fry for 2-3 minutes. After this, take out this mixture in a big vessel and add curd to it and mix it well.
  • After this leave this mixture for 10 minutes.
  • Now again pour half a tablespoon of ghee in the pan and heat it.
  • Add cumin, ginger, green chili and fry for 30 seconds.
  • Then add spinach and mix it well and fry it.
  • After that turn off the gas. When the mixture cools down, put it in a mixer jar, adding 1/3 cup of water and grind it to a fine paste.
  • Now add this smooth paste to the semolina mixture and mix.
  • After mixing this mixture well with the help of a spoon, add baking soda and salt as per taste.
  • Take an idli pot and grease all its sides with ghee.
  • Put the idli mixture in it, cover it and let the idli cook on high flame for 15 minutes.
  • After the spinach idli is ready, take it out in a vessel. Similarly prepare all the spinach idlis and serve them with coconut chutney or green chutney.

Note: Apart from spinach, carrots, curd can also be used to make Palak Idli.
